On 28 September a new teaching facility of the University of L’Aquila was opened at the Coppito (AQ) campus. It was built thanks to a donation from the “Notaries for L'Aquila” Committee which collected a sum in excess of Euro 277,000.
The “Notaries for L'Aquila” Committee was set up by the Italian Notariat in April 2009 after the city was hit by an earthquake, with the aim of collecting funds for initiatives relating to young people and their university education.
The sum, handed over in late 2009 to Prof. Ferdinando di Orio, Chancellor of the University of L’Aquila, was agreed with the L’Aquila University Foundation to assist in restarting teaching activities.
The new building is made up of various modules linked to a central atrium, for a total surface area of over 400 square metres. It includes areas for study rooms and project work as well as lecture halls.
“We are happy that our contribution is destined for the new generations who represent the future and are the engine of development for the local area” commented the President of the National Council of Notaries Giancarlo Laurini.
“Today's ceremony is a tangible sign of the Notariat's commitment to the local community as well as the profession's solidarity with our colleagues in Abruzzo” said Donatella Quartuccio, Secretary of the National Council of Notaries and Member of the “Notaries for L'Aquila” Committee.
“Today we have completed another step, providing the students of L'Aquila with a new space to study and to plan their future” declared Vittorio Altiero, President of the Notarial Council of the United Districts of L'Aquila, Sulmona and Avezzano, adding that "the notaries of L'Aquila never interrupted their service. I'd also like to thank publicly our colleagues in the rest of Italy who have given their enthusiastic support for the restarting of the university's activities”.
