Notartel S.p.A. was set up in 1997 in a partnership between the Consiglio Nazionale del Notariato (National Council of Notaries) and the Cassa Nazionale del Notariato (National Notaries' Fund) with the aim of creating and managing information and communications services for Italian notaries.

There are interconnections with:
- the systems of the Territorial Agency for access to the data bases of the Land Registry and Archives;
- Infocamere's systems for access to the data bases of the Chambers of Commerce and the Companies Registry;
- the Notarial Archives systems for data from the General Registry of Wills;
- Automobile Club Italia's systems for data from the Public Automobile Registry;
- the Istituto Poligrafico dello Stato (Government Printer) to consult the Official Gazette and to arrange publication of legal notices;
- the Centro Elaborazione Dati (data centre) of the Cassazione (Supreme Court).

Notartel for legal certainty and the development of the country
In recent times, by computerizing the documentary processes of interest to its activity and its interaction with the Public Administration, the notarial profession has contributed responsibly and professionally to improving citizens' lives in terms of the quantity and quality of services, in the time saved in dealing with the various types of transactions and the fulfilling of formal requirements, and in legal certainty obviating subsequent litigation:
- 0.0 % corporate litigation;
- 0.00065 % payouts on professional insurance.
The country's reliability is also a function of the system of public registries that are updated by notaries with data of assured quality that comply with the stipulations of the law:
- communication of data to police headquarters;
- to local councils;
- to the taxation authorities;
- to the Public Administration in general.
All this is achieved using a teleprocessing network created by the notarial profession at its own expense and that costs the State nothing, with the aid of a digital signature certified by the National Council.
This also allows the State to collect its taxes promptly by way of a direct debit for which the notary is responsible even if his client does not furnish the funds.
Almost 5 billion euros every year (10 trillion of the old lire) of indirect taxes and capital gains, equivalent to 0.35% of GDP, are collected by notaries and passed on to the State, with full responsibility but no commission.
