        Notariat in the Front Line in the Fight Against Money-Laundering

        The Bank of Italy's website has published the half-yearly bulletin of the U.I.F. [Financial Information Division] containing data relating to the reporting in the first half of 2011 of possible instances of money-laundering and financing of terrorism. There was a substantial increase in reports of suspect operations, reaching a total of 23,800 or 57% more than in the same period of 2010.

          Conference on "Clearer patrimonial regimes for international couples"

          Every day the Notaries of Europe observe that more and more citizens live, study, marry, divorce and die in a Member State that is not their own. The European Commission suggests that about 16 million international couples are affected, representing at least 650 000 couples every year. It also estimates that the value of property at stake every year amounts to approximately 400 million euros.

            Milan Police and Notaries to Cooperate for the Rights of Foreigners

            The Milan Police Command, the Notarial Council of Milan, Busto Arsizio, Lodi, Monza and Varese and the Notaries' Union Association of Lombardy join hands over the question of immigration, signing a collaboration agreement aimed at assisting foreigners present in Italy in the exercise of their civil rights and in their relations with the Public Service.                 The Fight Against Money Laundering: the Notarial Profession Has Reported the Largest Number of Suspect Financial Operations

                The laundering of dirty money is one of the most difficult hurdles for the development of the Italian economy. According to estimates by Eurispes and Confesercenti's usury monitoring unit, the phenomenon represents 10% of GDP - a total of between 75.7 and 110 billion euros - as compared with the 5% worldwide estimated by the International Monetary Fund.
