Syracuse: Notaries Join the “Syracuse is Justice” Foundation

On 28 May 2012, at the International Criminal Science Institute (ISISC) facility in Syracuse, a press conference was held to present the “Syracuse is Justice” Foundation, promoted by ISISC and the Chamber of Commerce of Syracuse with a view to improving the efficiency of the legal system and relations between the judicial system and the citizenry.

This initiative has met with approval from organisations making up the city’s economic and social fabric; amongst the founding members signing the charter are the Notarial Council of Syracuse, the Order of Lawyers, the Order of Chartered Accountants, the College of Surveyors, the Bank of Syracuse, Confindustria, Confagricoltura, Confcooperative, Confesercenti, Casartigiani, the National Confederation of Artisans, the Italian Farmers’ Confederation, the General Association of Italian Cooperatives, the Retailing, Tourism and Services Association, Confagi, the Building Fund and the Cooperatives League. The Province and the Municipality will shortly be added to the list.

The Foundation is based on the awareness that the correct working of the judicial system and its accessibility to users represent not only a particularly important social requirement, but this is also one of the indispensable prerequisites for the economic development of the area in which that system operates and the capability of that community to attract the right kind of investment.

It therefore becomes indispensable to provide a concrete response in terms of the efficiency of the judicial set-up, using a leaner structure with links to the local area to support the modernisation drive in which judicial offices are currently engaged, in particular through the procurement and use of IT.

These stories, from times past and present, emerge from the provisions of the last wills and testaments of famous men and women as well as of ordinary people. They make interesting and in some cases even comical reading. Those who choose to give a noble end to their existence through a charitable bequest turn their will into a story of love for their fellow man and send a message of hope to new generations.
